A thread for Movie buffs
I don't know of anyone who hasn't seen a movie in their life. Everybody likes watching movies, how much is, of course depends on person to person. So, I am starting this thread in the hope that members of this site will share their experiences of watching their favourite movies and not so favourite movies in this Forum thread. Reviews of any movie someone liked or any movie someone slept through are also welcome.
Discussions about general trends in different movies - English, Hindi & even regional movies are most welcome.
Hoping this thread will increase activity in Forum section.

Movies being watched onboard ships.
During my days on-board (last 13 years) I was used to watching mainly Hollywood Movies those days, as they were readily available in different countries. Then came Chinese movies. These movies were also readily available if you happen to be in Asian countries. Much of these movies were of same formula, sometimes dubbed, sometimes subtitled and sometimes neither dubbed nor subtitled (though not important for watching Happy). Hindi movies were not available so much.
Then came the avalanche of VCDs & DVDs and that brought majority of Hindi movies onboard.
Boy, what all Hindi movies I watched - from latest movies to movies I wouldn't watch even if somebody pays to do so Happy.
Now, latest in this queue are South Indian movies. I happen to watch close to 50 south indian movies while onboard different ships. Most of these movies are Tamil & Telugu and are brought by crew from south india. What surprises me most is the fact - many of these movies are much more enjoyable than recent Hindi movies.
Now, above fact brings me to a serious conclusion about recent Hindi movies. Present Hindi movies are being made to cater mainly Metrpolitan and Non resident Indian viewers. Small town & rural viewers are being left behind by these movies. Many of these viewers are switching over to Regional movies & Bhojpuri movies.
Hey, I think I went little off topic here.
Hope, someone else also continues this thread.

Ya ......... no doubt, very unique thread indeed. Personally though I believe, VCDs are the biggest curse on human society, that too onboard. Mind you, I am not talking about the DVDs or Blue-rays. The VCD........why so? Because, most of them are pirated, and onboard, most of the times, you get scratched ones. Suppose you start watching one movie with great interest, and then when there is this climax part, then the CD would get stuck, leave apart the bad quality of the pirated Discs.
Talking about the favourite ones, I just remember in childhood days, when I was in Kharagpur, I used to go to see "BIG B" movies, even if I couldn't understand a word of Hindi. Just to watch Bachchan. Can you beat that. So, its obvious, most of the Big B movies still remain in my favorite list.
Talking Internationally, I would like to mention 2 movies:
01) Forest Gump, starring Tom Hanks
02) The First Knight, Starring Richard Gere, Sean Connery (not sure about the spelling though)

About VCDs & Big B movies
Problem regarding VCDs saw demise of VCDs quite fast from several countries, though still popular in some asian countries. But, problems you mentioned regarding VCDs occur in Regular VCDs also, though less frequent. Basically, this problem occurs due to scratching of disc surface, which can be attributed to mishandling of discs on-board. This occurs in DVDs also, if mishandled.

Talking about Big B....my admiration of Big B started during my Inter college years - while watching few hit Big B movies in Cinema Halls (by bunking classes of course Happy). Myself & few of my friends decided to watch all Big B movies before final exam by any means. We somehow managed to procure a list of Big B movies (quite difficult those days - no internet Happy). Then our spree of watching Big B movies started. Cinema Hall, Video Cassettes and Doordarshan. We even managed to catch up few Big B movies in Cinema Halls even if they were screened for a single show. Though our mission remain incomplete till this date, we managed to watch around 75 movies of around 90 Big B movies released till our final exam. And my Inter college days were in Jamshedpur, not in Kolkata. So, it was quite difficult with so few Cinema halls in Jamshedpur and with further limited pocket money Happy.
Hoping to hear from other members also, apart from myself & samarda.

About "Idiots"
Recently, I went to watch "3 Idiots" after getting positive reviews from others. And returned with a nostalgic feeling, every penny well spent. Anyone who is even remotely connected with College Hostel Life would certainly love this movie. Great performances from Amir Khan & Boman Irani.
Hindi movie bashers should also see this movie, so that they can see commercial movies can be made in Bollywood with contemporary issues.

3 Idiots vs Pa
Guess what? Just yesterday I saw this 3 Idiots & was thinking of writing something about it, and then I see Mr Bose already wrote about it.
I started watching the movie with a casual attitude, taking for granted, another box office hit by tickling the public sentiment .......... from my experience with Pa.
People were going gaga over Pa. Self also a big fan of Big B. But, truly speaking, it felt like kind of over-acting by Big B. I rather liked Abhishek's part better.
3 idiots broke my opinion. When i got engrossed into the movie, didn't realize. Except the child delivery part, every single scene I enjoyed.
A big entertainment after "Dil Chahta Hai"

Why I skipped 'Pa'
I had given a miss to 'Pa', though I like most of Big B movies (not all certainly). What I found out from the reviews & word of mouth, theme of this movie inspired from a hollywood movie which I watched & liked very much. Name of that movie is 'Jack' & starred by one of my favourite Hollywood actor - Robin Williams.
My suggestion to anyone who has watched 'Pa' is to watch 'Jack'. It is most certainly a heart warming & feel-good movie.
Last but not the least, I might watch 'Pa' in future, but surely won't make a special effort to watch it.
